Twain Harte History

History of Twain Harte

Tall pines and an idyllic mountain lake have drawn people to Twain Harte from the earliest days.

Before golf courses, summer homes and dinner houses were Twain Harte's landmarks, the Mi-Wuk Indians called home a lakeside camp near Twain Harte Lake's popular "Rock". ("The Rock" as residents call a sweeping expanse of granite near the Twain Harte Lake Dam, is the area's oldest landmark).

There the Indians built houses or "oochums" from limbs of trees and bark and wove fine baskets from the willows that grew in the damp places.

But in nearby Columbia, Sonora and Jamestown, the discovery of gold in 1849 was drawing white men to the foothills by the thousands. When the easy gold was exhausted, then came the lumbermen and the ranchers bent on tapping the area's other riches its forests and grazing lands.

Apple and Pear orchards, cattle ranches and later, lumber mills began springing up around the Indian enclave at "The Rock".

In 1861, the U.S. Congress authorized construction of a road to run from the foot of Twain Harte Grade over Sonora Pass, connecting the growing commercial center of Sonora with the boom mining town of Aurora. A contractor named J. B. Carter was paid $400,000 to build the road, but when the sum proved inadequate, another company with private finances completed the construction. Two toll gates were put in to defray expenses, one at Twain Harte and one at Sugar Pine.

Alfred Fuller, an Ohioan who came to the area during the 1850's, took a Mi-Wuk wife and lived near "The Rock" on what was then the Calder Ranch, was hired to operate the Twain Harte Toll Gate of the Sonora-Mono Toll Rd. He continued in that job until the 1890's when the county took over maintenance of the road.

In 1862, Patrick Williams acquired 540 acres of land, including the meadow where the Twain Harte Golf Course is now located. Williams planted apple and pear orchards, ran a few head of cattle and maintained a watering place for the freight wagons bound for the east slop mines. Williams water trough was located where Twain Harte Lodge is today.

Williams' son, John D. Williams, inherited the ranch at his father's death, but in 1923 sold out to Keturah C. Wood.

Wood subdivided the area in 1924 and named it Twain Harte Lodge after two famous Mother Lode authors, Mark Twain and Bret Harte.

Twain Harte is belived to be the first private recreational subdivision in the Sierra Nevada according to Carlo DeFerrari, county historian. Earlier, the U.S. Forest Service had in 1916 and 1917 subdivided the area around Strawberry Lake (now Pinecrest) and sold lots and leases to permittees, he said.

Twain Harte Lodge Realty was organized in 1925 to sell stock in the development. In 1926, Albert L. Nevins and Dr. E. Turner bought into the Twain Harte Development Co. Wood retained only a 40 acre piece that came to be known as Lilac Terrace.

Nevins and Turner energetically pulled together plans for the subdivision. They started Twain Harte Dam during the summer of 1927 but ran short of funds. Edward M. Marquis agreed to to put up the money needed to complete the dam.

But when the company failed to pay off the note in 1934, Marquis foreclosed and took over the company, changing the name to Twain Harte Realty.

By that time, Twain Harte, was a thriving summer colony. Cabin sites, available for a modest $100 and up sold steadily.

Turner and Nevins constructed imposing homes on the hill near the present-day site of the Twain Harte Market.

The first school in the area had been located before the turn of the century at the nearby Centrecamp millsite, one of many millsites operated by the Tuolumne County Water Co., while it was constructing the open ditch water system operated by the County today.

The first Twain Harte School opened in 1928 in a schoolhouse moved in from the nearby mining town of Confidence to a site near the Williams ranch house.

Nearly all community activities centered around the subdivision clubhouse located near where the Twain Harte Fire Station stands today. The clubhouse doubled as meeting hall, social hall and church for all denominations.

Marquis added a lodge, then a bar, then a modest hotel.

The wooden arch, today the town's trademark, was built in 1933.

Ray Eproson, who bought the Twain Harte Grocery in 1930, allowed the development company to construct a golf course in the Twain Harte Meadow exacting as his share a rent of $1 a year. The golf course became popular with well-known personalities of the day, including Mario Giannini, Late president of the Bank of America.

In 1943, Nevins and Eproson bought out the Marquis holdings, which included the subdivision, a hotel, service station and some outbuildings. In 1947, they sold the hotel to Joch Rocca who operated the establishment until it burned to the ground in 1953. The present lodge was built in 1958.

State Department of Forestry firefighters camped at Twain Harte with one engine for many summers before building a permanent fire station at the edge of the meadow in 1944.

Twain Harte has grown rapidly since the close of World War II. Once the summer retreat of a few hundred, the community is today permanent home for several thousand. Since the original subdivision, there have been many others. Nevins, Turner, Marquis and Eproson completed five subdivisions. Baunhauser, Broadhurst, Gunther and Morrow added a sixth.

Today, according to the latest census, Twain Harte is one of the fastest growing areas in Tuolumne County.

Residents are attracted today by the same qualities that drew the Mi-Wuk Indians there over 100 years ago -- the area's beauty, recreational opportunities and healthful climate.

Bahamas Real Estate Guide to Permits, Residency and More

Author: Ester Napoli

Article:
White sand beaches, clear blue waters, tax breaks, real estate
and property; the Bahamas never looked so good. And yes, I said
real estate. Bahamian real estate is hotter than ever.

In 1993, the International Persons Landholding Act was put into
motion to encourage foreigners to purchase a second home in The
Bahamas. And it couldn’t be simpler. If a foreigner buys a
single family dwelling or vacant land to be used in the
construction of such a dwelling, then he no longer needs to
obtain a permit from the Government prior to the purchase. He
only needs to register the acquisition later with the
Investments Board. Permanent residents of the Bahamas and
foreigners who inherit property in the Bahamas don’t have to
obtain a permit before acquiring land but must register
afterward.

However, there are cases where a permit will be needed for
Bahamas real estate. First, if the property is undeveloped land
and of five acres in size or larger. Secondly, if the property
is not a private residence, or it is not intended for
development as such, a permit is needed.

In dealing with mortgages, the act is not meant to be a road
block. In fact, it provides that licensed banks, trust, and
insurance companies who acquire an interest in or take
possession of property under a court order must register that
acquisition. An acquisition by way of foreclosure under a
mortgage or of land acquired by an authorized foreign state will
not require a permit but must be registered.

With leases, foreigners are not required to obtain permits,
register leases, or letting agreements unless they are for trade
or business purposes and the term can exceed 21 years.

Not only has the government made owning a second home easy for
foreigners, they have also included a condition so that a
foreigner no longer pays a double rate of stamp duty; he now
pays the same single rate as a Bahamian.

The stamp duty is a tax that is payable on the delivery of all
real property based on the value as follows: Stamp duty starts
at 2% for real estate valued under $20,000 US, but increases to
10% for real estate over $250,000 US. Payment of this tax is
usually shared equally between the seller and the buyer. There
is also a 1% stamp duty on mortgages paid by the borrower. The
usual practice in the Bahamas is for the tax to be shared
equally between buyer and seller unless otherwise agreed upon.

If you are entering the Bahamas, you must fill out an
embarkation-disembarkation card which is usually provided by
your travel agent, the airline, or the ship you are traveling
on. A visa and passport is not required of you if you are a
Canadian citizen or subject of the United Kingdom unless the
stay exceeds three weeks. U.S. citizens on regularly scheduled
airlines, pre-cleared for return at U.S Customs and Immigration
at Nassau International Airport also do not require a visa
(though proof of citizenship is required).

You are allowed a maximum stay of eight months with proper
documents which includes a return ticket and evidence of
financial support. If you would like to stay longer, then you
have to apply for temporary residency to the Director of
Immigration. If, however, you would like to make the Bahamas
your permanent residence by way of Bahamas property investment,
then you will have to apply for permanent residency. If you plan
on working in the Bahamas, a work permit must be applied for
separately.

There are different levels of residency. The first is permanent
residence which requires a purchase of a residence of more than
$500,000, subject to a $10,000 one-time payment. Another level
of residence is that of a homeowner where no minimum purchase is
required, however, your card must be renewed every year for a
fee of $1000. And the last level of residence is an annual
residence where, again, no minimum purchase is required but you
must renew every year for a fee of $1000.

Owning Bahamas real estate sounds spectacularly easy and that’s
because it is. But there are some things to keep in mind when
making an investment of this size. Here are a few guidelines to
help you out when buying Bahamas property:

Think location: Depending where you buy, prices will
vary. On the main islands such as New Providence and Grand
Bahama, prices are more than double the prices in Florida. If
you’re looking for an investment property, these would be good
choices. If you’re looking into buying a quiet retreat, consider
something on the family islands as they are less expensive.

Have a look: Once you have decided where you would like
to buy a property, the next step is to have a look at more than
one property so you can get an overall picture of the market.

Take a second look: It’s a good idea to get a certified
professional to look over the property just in case there are
hidden surprises!

So whether you’re making an investment or buying a vacation
home, the Bahamas will welcome you with open arms. All you have
to do is make your ticket to paradise!

The perfect date on the Central Coast of California

Author: Dan K. O'Leary

Article:
Dating in San Luis Obispo

Welcome to the doldrums of dating, where your single ship
drifts aimlessly without wind or direction. Sailing analogies
aside, meeting the perfect person in San Luis Obispo can be
challenging, and keeping things fresh can be ever harder. As the
resident expert, I’ve done my fair share of dating in this town,
as some of you may know for better or worse. So, how have I been
so successful? What is the secret to dating in San Luis Obispo?

Meeting your mate Let’s start with meeting the right person.
Whether you are at Poly Dolly, or alumni still kicking it around
town, meeting the right person is all about location. Yes like
that old business cliché, where you go will dictate who you’ll
meet. So if you are a lonely student, then go and spend some
time downtown at Uptown Espresso, or hang out in the University
Union.

If you want to break the ice, play it cool. When dealing with
college students in a casual atmosphere, ask questions like
“What are you studying?” Basically, take some time to introduce
yourself, and start making connections. Don’t be surprised to
find out that you are both taking intro to bowling next quarter,
or maybe you both are in the ski club. Speaking of clubs,
joining organizations like the ski club will help you meet like
minded people. The secret to meeting someone you have something
in common with is by going out of your way to join some new
groups, a new class, and saying “Hello”.

Now for those of you out of the dorms and constant presence of
members of the opposite sex, meeting your dream date can
initially appear more demanding. While some may claim that the
bar scene in downtown SLO is overrated, there are hidden gems
where all the hotties congregate. Case in point, on a recent
Wednesday, I stumbled into Grappolo, and was greeted by a ration
of two stunning beauties for every one scruffy looking guy. On
the flipside, all you single ladies (Yes, they do exist in this
town) should check out Corner View on a Friday night. Not only
will you get away from the token college boys, but you can
sample their extensive drink selection, and enjoy a more
cultured experience.

Planning your first date A wise man once said, “Don’t reinvent
the wheel.” So listen up my aspiring Casanova, and you too will
be rolling in no time. First of all- if you were planning dinner
and a movie tear up that worn out idea and get over that tired
old fallback. Take a moment to look outside. We live in paradise
people! You are constantly surrounded by awe inspiring vistas,
sandy beaches, and a majestic blue sky.

With that in mind, whenever I think of a perfect date, I imagine
a Saturday afternoon in Pismo Beach. All you gentlemen should
plan on staring the day at Pismo Beach florist, and purchase a
single rose. It shows that you aren’t afraid to give, but you
also aren’t out to buy their love. Pick up your date and head
over to the Steaming Bean, and order up a pair of mocha lattes.
Mention that Daniel K. O’Leary from VirtualSLO sent you, and
take a seat at my regular table. After chatting over your frothy
beverages, talk a stroll down to the shore, and sit and listen
to the surf crash. The rest is up to you. Total Cost- $12.

Keeping it lively “I’m bored” are three words you should
eliminate from your vocabulary when it comes to the SLO life.
There is a reason millions of tourists descend upon or community
every year, and you need to understand why.

You can eat at a new restaurant every week, and not repeat for
over a decade. You can go to a new beach every weekend for an
entire year. Whether you want to bike, listen to classical
music, or make your own wine, the options on the central coast
are as limitless as your imagination. I’m fairly unoriginal, so
I cheat and look at the events calendar on VirtualSLO to keep
abreast of what is happening during the next week. Go see a show
at the PAC, take a wine tour, or go bird watching. In my
personal experience, I’ve been on more dates than I can
remember, and I’ve yet to repeat.

So good luck meeting the right person, and in case someone
introduces themselves as Daniel K. O’Leary the next time you are
downtown, run. You probably wouldn’t want to date me anyways. If
you would like some personal advice, send me an e-mail and I’ll
see what I can do.

Save Up To 50% When Traveling On Vacation

Author: Maria Estarellas

Article:
Did you know you can go on a 7-day cruise for half the price?

Or visit Europe for 15 days for only $2,000 per person including
airfare, hotels, car rental and meals?

If you follow these steps, you can save more up to 50% in travel
expenses.

1. Travel during low season.

Choosing to go on vacation during low season, will save you a
great deal of money on airfare, hotels, cruises, car rental and
more.

The best dates to travel are between:

February - May

September- the week before Thanksgiving

December 1 - 15

For example, a 7-day cruise in the Caribbean can cost around
$1,000 during summer and winter but it can cost $495 during low
season.

A ticket to Europe can cost between $800-$1,200 during high
season but you can buy it at $395 roundtrip during low season.

2. Hotels

The same applies to hotel rates. When it comes to hotels, you
should look for 3-star hotels that will offer most amenities you
need at a lower price than 4 or more star hotels. You should
keep in mind, that 3-star hotels are smaller, but you can find
very good hotels for a great price.

Keep in mind that hotels that are very near local attractions
will be more expensive than hotels located 2 or 3 blocks away.

3. Attractions and Places to Visit

Make a list of the places and attractions you want to visit and
do some research. Find out about the schedules, locations,
special events, etc. You'll find out that there are certain dates
during the year that they will have discounts and even free
admission.

4. Restaurants

Don't visit tourist-oriented restaurants.

Instead, ask locals to recommend family-owned or small
restaurants. Not only will you pay less but the food, quality
and service will be much better.

Two years ago, I visited Monaco, France and we went to a small
restaurant on a side street and we only paid $100 (for 4 people)
for appetizers, great pasta, drinks and dessert (including tip).
Not a bad price considering that Monaco is very expensive.

5. Metro vs. Taxi

In most places, there is a metro or train system which will be a
lot cheaper than traveling by taxi. All you need to do is get a
map and trace the route you're going to visit and find out the
train or metro you need to get on to.

By planning your vacation in advance, choosing the best dates to
travel (low season), doing research about places and attractions
to visit, going to local restaurant versus tourist-oriented
ones, and using the metro or train system instead of taxis, will
save you a great deal of money and allow you to go on vacation
at least twice a year.

Get a New Life Overseas

Author: Rhiannon Williamson

Article:
How to find the courage and commitment to make your new life
abroad a reality…

oAre you fed up with your mundane day-to-day working life? oDoes
the thought of getting out of bed in the morning when it is cold
and dark outside depress you? oAre you dreaming of starting a
brand new life overseas? oWould you like to find out how to make
your dream life a reality?

Research shows that at any one time more than half of us are
dreaming of a new life overseas, but few actually succeed in
making the transition from fantasy to reality – I’ve done it,
and I know others who have too, but at the same time whenever I
speak to my friends ‘back home’ I hear the same old same old “I
wish I had your courage…”, “I wish I could do what you’ve done.”

It’s true, to completely turn your life on its head and start
your life all over again in a foreign country is an incredible
undertaking. But those of us who have actually bitten the bullet
and taken the chance have reaped the rewards.

The quality of life I now enjoy is unsurpassable! I left my 50
hour working week and 15 hour commuting week behind, I gave up
the rainy grey days and I established my own business on one of
the sunniest spots on earth! And you know what – though at times
it has been oh so hard – I don’t regret a single moment of what
I’ve done!

So, would you like to know how to overcome your fears and
practically deal with every stage of the planning that goes into
getting a new life?

Would you like help in deciding where in the world is right for
you and how to go about relocating to your ideal destination?

Start by exploring these five essential steps: -

Step One - stop asking yourself “what have I got to lose” –
instead, start asking yourself “what have I got to gain?”

Step Two - be honest with yourself about the type of person you
are. Are new beginnings a thrill and challenge for you or does
the thought truly scare you? Find your motivation for choosing a
new life abroad and hold on to that...it will get you through.

Step Three - choose the right country! Sounds mad? So, you've
already fallen in love with a country? Well, there are a lot of
countries for you to choose from! Decide what is important to
you in terms of quality of life and then prepare a short list of
countries that meet your requirements - does your dream
destination meet all your requirements?

Step Four - visit the countries you've short listed. This may
sound so obvious to many, unfortunately in my time as an expat
in Germany, Austria, France, Cyprus and Turkey I've met many
people who have made the move based on house prices or
photographs and seriously regret their decision. You have to get
a feel for the country before you make a commitment to it.

Step Five - remember that you can't run away from problems or
who you are - problems, issues, debts and emotional baggage will
follow you around the world! You'll still react the same way at
home or abroad. Self knowledge is the key to your success in
life. Problems always crop up, but if you can learn to live or
deal with them before you go, you are far more likely to survive
life abroad.

And finally, good luck and go for it!

Is your home safe?

Author: Michael McBee

In the hustle and bustle of getting ready to go on vacation we
prepare for many things. But for many of us we forget about
protecting our home while we travel. I have compiled a few tips
about what to do about the place you will be leaving behind,
your home. If you are able to do just a few of them there is a
better likelihood your home will be just the way you left it.

One of the times your home is most vulnerable is when it is left
empty for an extended period of time. Darkened windows,
unretrieved mail or newspapers and closed windows in hotter
weather all advertise your absence to a potential burglar.

The best protection for your home during your absence is to have
a house sitter. A friend you trust staying at your house can
take care of your pets and/or plants in addition to making sure
the house is inhabited. Have a neighbor check on your home while
you're away turning on lights, radios or TVs and opening and
closing curtains will give your apartment the appearance that
someone is home. If you don't have a friend or neighbor to
housesit or check your home while you're away -- perhaps even if
you do - you should keep not only lights but also a TV or radio
on a timer. If you're like me and have your TV on almost all the
time you're home (NOTE: I don't watch it, it's just background
noise while I work), the absence of the sound and that bluish
light in the windows announces that you're not there (besides it
keeps my pets company as well).

Make sure whoever is checking your home while you're away knows
how to work your alarm system and who to call in case of a
problem or emergency. Additionally be sure to leave contact
numbers on how you can be reached as well. Unless you have a
house sitter, stop your mail and any newspaper or other
delivery. Nothing announces an empty home better than a stack of
newspapers or an overflowing mailbox. Ask a nearby neighbor to
pick up any packages delivered while you're gone.

If you have a garden or plants on your balcony like many
apartment complexes do, make sure someone is watering the plants
regularly or put the plants where they can't be seen. Plants
slowly dying due to lack of water may announce your absence. If
you live in an apartment, check your lease. Many landlords
require that you notify them if your apartment is going to be
left empty for any period of time (this is so they can enter in
case of emergency even if they can't reach you). If you've got a
house sitter this normally isn't necessary.

Above is just some common sense tips, maybe they can help you
jog you mind and you will think of a few others. There is
nothing worse than coming home from a wonderful time on vacation
to find that your home has been violated.

Cheap car rental deals are spread all over the web. But not all

your cheap car rental deal might work out a lot more expensive
than you planned !

Here's some things you mustn't do :

* Forget to check the car's condition

When you pickup the car, be sure to check it carefully. Some
companies will blame pre-existing scratches & dents on you. They
know it needs fixing, and wait for a sucker to pay for it. This
is less likely with the big, reputable companies, but can be
avoided with these tips.

Check it over with the delivery guy, or when you go to pick it
up. If you have a digital camera or camcorder, which you
probably do if you're going on vacation, then give them a quick
run over the car. Then you can prove the exact condition of the
car when you first took it.

* Don't use the Internet to check for best deals

Of course you'll check for deals on the Internet ! That's
probably where you're reading this article. But there's still
people who don't check, and just take the first offline offer
they see. Check online, and use one of the search engines that
scans lots of different car rental offers.

* Don't check Offline too

Even though the Internet is probably the best place for car
rental deals, it's worth checking offline too. I found when
searching for Hotel deals, I often get the best deals by calling
ahead and negotiating with the receptionist (it's hard to
negotiate with a web page). Yet, with Airline tickets the best
deals are usually online, and the telephone/walk-in prices are
higher and can't be negotiated.

But with car rentals, if you want to cover all your bases, be
sure to check online and offline. Your local car rental dealer
might have a special offer he's forgotten to update on the web
site, or maybe someone's just cancelled a booking and you can
take it cheap at short notice.

* Don't carefully check the terms of your car rental deal

Make sure you've got unlimited mileage if you want to drive a
long way. Some deals have a mileage allowance, after which you
get charged high dollar per extra mile. Unlimited works out best
most times.

Check the terms to see if you need to return the car gas tank
full or nearly empty. I once made the mistake of returning it
full when I didn't need to - the car rental company refused to
refund the cost.

* Fail to clean the car if you genuinely do get it dirty

It's okay to return it dusty from driving a couple hundred
miles, but if your kid sicks inside, or someone spills coffee,
or drops a burger & fries, then clean it up ! If you don't the
car rental company will add an extra cleaning charge onto your
credit card.

Follow these tips and you'll have a relaxed and stress free car
rental experience, all ready to enjoy your vacation or business
trip.

Eliminate Embarrassment this Holiday Season.

Author: Frank Morosky

Article:
Mention flatulence or intestinal gas, and you’re bound to get a
chuckle. But for more than 44 million Americans, it is a serious
concern. The odor associated with excessive flatulence can be so
embarrassing that it prevents people from traveling and enjoying
normal social interactions. People like Jane Simoson, 39, can
travel with confidence this holiday season due to her Flat-D
Chair Pad. Jane is one of 44 million people in the US that are
afflicted with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and one of its
nasty side effects is gas or flatulence. Simoson says “this
product has changed my life”. Many people, like Simoson, will be
traveling this holiday season in confined spaces like cars,
trains, buses and airplanes. This product will give them
confidence and freedom to go and do whatever they want without
the fear of being embarrassed. The New Flat-D Chair Pad is a
black in color, thin and flexible pad that is simply placed on
your favorite chair (Recliner, Desk or Wheelchair). The Chair
Pad is made of a special activated charcoal cloth which absorbs
the odor out of gas in much the same way as a sponge absorbs
water. This material is lightweight, extremely thin (1/16th of
an inch), breathable, washable and reusable. When you travel it
can be rolled, folded and placed in a pocket or purse. This
makes it ideal for travel via airplane, car, or train. With the
holidays coming up we don’t want to be in enclosed spaces
without our Chair Pad. A G.I. Doctor customer calls his office
desk chair his “Safe Chair”. He will do his rounds and get all
filled up with malodorous gas. He rushes back to his small
office and expels his gas in his chair. He comments that his
nurses now don’t mind coming into his office now. We will be
eating and drinking a wide variety of foods to celebrate the
holidays. Food choices are one of the causes of excessive
flatulence gas. This will lead to many embarrassing situations
with family and friends. You don’t want to be remembered as a
stinker this holiday. The author of this article is the vice
president of Flat-D Innovations, Inc that makes a wide variety

Is an all inclusive resort right for you?

Author: Yuri Smolyansky

Article:
All-inclusive resorts can really help vacationers get the most
out of their travel dollars. Today, over 400 hotels in the
Caribbean and Mexico are either all-inclusive resorts or offer
all inclusive packages.

Destinations such as Aruba, Cancun, St. Thomas, and Bahamas have
an infrastructure that is well suited to all-inclusive and not
all inclusive resorts because there is a wide election of
restaurants and amenities for tourism. Jamaica and the Dominican
Republic on the other hand don't have the tourism infrastructure
in place and are best suited for all inclusive vacations.

You'll want to consider carefully before choosing an all
inclusive resort. Resorts do vary -- some are designed for
couples, some for singles, some for gays and some for families.
Some cater to a younger or older crowd. There are also some that
offer clothing-optional activities. For obvious reasons, most of
those don't allow children under 18.

The resorts come in all shapes and sizes. Some include airfare
and hotel. Some include airfare, hotel, transfers, and some
meals. Others include all meals and activities, but not airfare.
Often, purchasing airfare as part of the package can be a better
deal than doing so separately, unless you are using frequent
flier miles.

Many all inclusives have, as part of their program, child-care
facilities that are often a resort-within-the-resort for
children, a "day camp" that is special and that kids look
forward to attending. And many all-inclusive resorts give
incredible price breaks to children (they don't drink liquor,
after all,) while some even have no charge for children up to 17
sharing their parents' room.

What are the advantages of all-inclusive vacation resorts?

The security of knowing that one price covers everything, with
none of those nasty surprises that can blast a hole in any
family's travel budget. All meals, entertainment, activities and
sports, as well as airfare and accommodations, are generally
included in one price. You can forget your worries about
carrying lots of extra cash for expenses, and just sit back and
enjoy your vacation.

Who should check out an all inclusive?

Travelers who are: on a tight budget, traveling with the kids,
receiving the trip as a wedding gifts or getting married on the
honeymoon.

So, is an all inclusive resort right for you?

If you are the type of traveler that enjoys sampling all of the
local fare, then spending all of your time at an all-inclusive
resort is probably not for you. If you like to go somewhere just
to relax and not worry about taking out your wallet every couple
of hours to pay for food, drinks, or activities, then there's
probably an all-inclusive resort that's just right for you.

If you like to stay up all night partying and drinking, if you
want to take advantage of all the included watersports and
activities, if you want to have food and snacks available all
day and if you don't want to have to worry about the final bill
when you check out, an all-inclusive is definitely a viable
option. Some resorts even boast 24-hour room service.

All-inclusive resorts can be costly. On the other hand, they can
also provide great value. If you are going to a destination
where the cost of meals, snacks, liquor and activities are
expensive, and your hotel or resort is high-quality with an
expensive nightly rate, an all inclusive might end up saving you
money.

If, on the other hand, you don't drink much, you enjoy lazing on
the beach and getting an early nights sleep, you are dieting and
choose simple salads for your meals, you would probably be
overspending for an all-inclusive resort. Bear in mind the
drinks are only the cheap local which are not very strong.

On the down side of all-inclusive vacations, some folks get a
bit weary of dining in the same restaurant night after night.
The resort rooms may be smaller than standard hotel rooms. Some,
not all of the all-inclusive resorts provide shows. And some of
them have different show every night.

Some resorts have kids clubs for the little ones. Kids clubs
begin at any hotel at 4 years of age. Nannies or babysitters are
extra costs not included in the all-inclusive package. Almost
all the allinclusives have activities from beach volleyball to
bingo and other games.

It's a good idea if you want a cashless vacation in a secured
environment, if you are satisfied that the dining options
offered will be suitable for your tastes, if you take advantage
of the watersports, child-care and bars.

If you are adventurous and want to spend your days exploring the
country you are visiting and your evenings trying in-town dining
options, you would be better off choosing a resort that offers
that kind of flexibility instead of an all inclusive.

What is usually included in all inclusive vacation package?

All meals and drinks, beer, wine, premium liquor and tipping,
government taxes, gratuities, entertainment, activities and
sports, as well as airfare and accommodations, are generally
included in one price.

Airfare and hotel transfers are optional when buying all
inclusive package. Tipping is not allowed. One benefit of the
all-inclusive resort is that the single up-front price covers
unlimited activities.

Phone calls and items purchased at the gift shop are included.
The more expensive all-inclusive resorts is going to have the
nice sit-down restaurants. The next step down will have all
buffet dining.

Tennis and squash courts may be free and often night-lit courts
at no charge, but bring your rackets, as you'll probably have to
pay to rent them. Most packages do not include golfing fees. In
most cases you have to rent a golf cart, but compared to the
price of play on most courses, that cost is negligible. Sailing
craft are free as often as not. Snorkels, masks and fins are
usually free, but may have a time limit (note: bring masks from
home if you can, keeping in mind that the one-size-fits-all
variety is often useless on little faces, leaving kids to
snorkel miserably with a face-full of salt water). On-property
snorkeling is free, but the most interesting underwater sights
are usually somewhere else. The latter will cost you, if not for
the snorkeling itself, then for the transportation to get there
and back. With motorized sports costs can climb upwards of $60
an hour. Parasailing is another costly venture. Divers, too,
might find an all-inclusive cost-effective. Tanks have to be
paid for separately, but diving excursions are included in some
of these resorts. If you are not certified, most resorts offer a
"resort certification" which will allow you to go on closely
supervised guided dives. A resort certification is a great
introduction to the sport. If, however, you are already a
certified diver, some resorts, such as Sandals, Beaches, and
Gala Resorts, offer one or two tank dives a day in their
all-inclusive packages.

Many all inclusive resorts offer spa treatments as part of their
packages, with the option of paying for more intensive
therapies.

Do not forget to budget extra cash for some excursions that
weren't included in all inclusive package. A swim with the
dolphins, for example, runs about $100 per person -- more than
small change if you're traveling with a family of four.

Consider carefully these additional factors before purchasing an
all inclusive vacation package.

Price is often relative to quality. If it seems too good to be
true, it probably is. However, sometimes it's possible to get an
amazing and legitimate deal, as long as you're looking in the
right places - Apple Vacations, Funjet Vacations, TNT Vacations
and numerous smaller wholesalers.

Look for deals. Check websites for details. Check to see what's
included in the price, so you don't incur any additional costs
that you're not prepared to pay for.

Organize any visas and travel insurance policies well in
advance. Your tour operator and travel agent should advise you
on all of these but you should also contact the embassy or
consulate of the country you are visiting for information about
visas.

It is important that you speak with your doctor about the
necessary immunizations for the areas you are traveling to. When
you're traveling in Mexico, you must take extra care when it
comes to drinking water, or fresh beverages that may have tap
water added to them. Check ice also - ask if it was made with
tap water - it is unlikely that your ice will have been made
with tap water; but its worth asking in more rustic
establishments and rural areas. Salads can also be dangerous if
they have been rinsed with tap water. The rule is - if in doubt,
ask first! All main hotels and good restaurants use purified
water throughout

In order to be eligible for special honeymoon offers and
discounts, it's wise to take a copy of your marriage certificate
with you as proof that you are on honeymoon.

If you are a single parent, or if your partner will not be
traveling with you and your children for whatever reason, you
must get a notarized letter from the absent parent, giving
consent for the child or children to be traveling with one
parent absent.

If you are estranged from your partner, and you are the legal
guardian of your child / children, you can take a copy of the
court order (note: original only - no copies!) with you and this
will suffice to get your child or children with you.

If you are a widow or widower, you will need to write a letter
to explain this and get it, and a copy of the death certificate,
notarized and carry both of these documents with you when you
travel.

If you are under 18 and want to travel without your parents, you
will need to carry with you a notarized letter of consent signed
by both parents.

If you are a lone parent or will be traveling with your children
but without your partner, or under 18 traveling alone, get the
required paperwork together before you leave. Airlines are now
refusing to board lone parents and children and children
traveling unaccompanied without this notarized letter of consent.

Many hotels in Mexico set age restrictions during spring break.
Here's an example of many hotel Spring Break policy: Hotel will
accept individual and student group bookings. A refundable
deposit of $200 per person and credit card are required at time
of check in. Any credit cards used must be issued in guest's
name. Guests may be required to sign an agreement/list of rules
at check in. At least one person per room must satisfy the
minimum age requirement for check in for individual student
bookings. At least one adult for every 20 students is required
for student group bookings.

If you or someone in your party is confined to a wheelchair,
you'll want to explore accessibility issues very carefully. Ask
your travel agent specific questions that may concern you.

Always have a way out. Ask about cancellation policies, and look
into travel insurance, especially if you are booking through an
online agency. Choose wisely and make sure the resort's
amenities and programs fit your lifestyle and character, and
you'll have the time of your life!

Do You Make These Car Rental Mistakes?

Is there Really Free Travel on the Internet?

Author: Kow Chai

Article:
If you go to Google and enter the term "Free Travel" you would
find 2,200,000 Entries. If you check All-the Web, you find
3,990,000 Entries. You find a similar number on any search
engine. Obviously these are highly competitive search terms. It
is likely that with this many entries under these terms that the
bids for such keywords are pretty high for Pay Per Click
Advertisers.

After researching these Search Terms for you, I have found a
number of offers and much information. This report is the
culmination of many, many hours of online research and I am
certain you will enjoy learning what is really offered under
these terms.

Some entries returned are clearly advertisements for some sort
of Informational Products. E-Books that were written to
"educate" the consumer on how to travel for free. These include
products that will give you the consumer insider information on
how to save money on travel. Or how to travel for free.

Here is the real deal. Some offers are contingent upon booking
accommodations or a cruise. Such as these:

"Free Airfare". Due to the volume buying power of a major travel
consolidator in the US and Canada, it is now possible for a
limited time to receive Free Roundtrip Airfare for 2 valued at
up to $1600.00 from this little known source. Visit
http://www.free-airfare.info for more information.

This Free Airfare is actually good for anytime within the next
five years. This offer is contingent upon booking your hotel
with a specific licensed Travel Agency, however, if you are
planning a trip to nearly any International Airport destination
and are going to be staying in a hotel of any type during your
trip, you will essentially be paying only for your Hotel Room
with this offer.

The way it works basically is that you purchase up front a
Reservation Package. Purchase your Reservation Package here,
http://www.free-airfare.info

Once you have the Reservation Forms, you fill in your desired
budget and destination and send it to the Travel Agent. The
Agent Books the Accommodations for you and sends you an airline
ticket along with a Confirmation for your hotel stay. It's that
easy.

If you are planning a cruise then you can also receive "Free
Airfare" by booking on the Paul Gauguin Cruise ship. More
details here.
http://cruises.about.com/cs/cruisenews/a/040217pgauguin.htm This
ship cruises Tahiti annd associated ports.

Another "Free Airfare" offer exists with a Cruise in the Hawaii.
More details here. http://www.didioncruises.com/aboutcruise.html

free. Not everyone will be able to take advantage of these
secrets, but if you can, you can expect to enjoy many years of
free travel. Visit

How to "Fly for Free" by giving up your seat Believe it or not,

reduced flights. Find more details here,

Here are some ideas assembled by a long time traveller. I would
not personally be able to do all of these, however, some of
these ideas do seem feasible. Visit

If you know a group of people who have been talking about going
somewhere together or if you want to assemble a group to visit
some exotic or tourist destination these agencies will pay your
way for booking through them.

As you can see there are a few legitimate opportunities online
for Free travel. But the time it takes to sift through all the
advertisements and listings to find them was substantial. It is
my sincere hope that you will take advantage of these offers and
opportunities and begin to enjoy the benefits of Free Travel.

Amazing Arizona

Author: Sumner Andrews

Article:
A neighbor of ours said that after 20+ years in Arizona, they
have finally finished visiting all the key state attractions. We
didn't believe them. My wife and I have moved around quite a bit
and each time we quickly exhausted our host states tourist
resources. Not so with Arizona. Let me give you a couple of
examples.

As new residents, we had to make the Sedona pilgrimage. Sedona
is considered by many to be the center of the New Age movement.
Allegedly, it contains several natural energy vortexes. So we
had to visit just for the novelty of it. The first visit we
spent the entire time visiting the main town shops. Even by the
end of the day we hadn't exhausted the possibilities. On our
second visit to Sedona, we went directly to Tlaquepaque ,a
wonderful Spanish hacienda containing some of the best art in
the region. Despite half a dozen visits to Sedona since then, we
still haven't sampled the New Age offerings. Each visit we have
seen something new.

Not too long ago, my wife and I did a quick tour of the central
part of Route 17, the main artery linking Tucson, Phoenix, and
Flagstaff. We stopped off at Arcosanti, the inspiration of the
world renowned architect Paolo Soleri, to pick up one of his
famous bells. We swung around to view the Montezuma Castle, a
cliff dwelling where a tribe of Sinagua Indians lived. We then
visited a western town reproduction in Cottonwood where you can
get a complete dinner and cowboy show in one sitting.

We have seen more in a years time than we saw in ten elsewhere.
We have visited an ostrich farm outside of Tucson, walked safely
at night through downtown Phoenix for a Sun's basketball game,
cross country skied in Flagstaff, and horseback rode through a
Saquaro cactus forest. By now you would think we are close to
exhausting Arizona's resources. Hardly. It is just like our
neighbors said. We haven't begun. Let's see, I am planning to
visit Nogales on the border of Mexico to pick up some great
bargains. Then I want to visit Lake Havasu on my way to Las
Vegas. Well, you get the idea.

Sonoma Valley Wineries And Wines

Author: Ben Bicais

Article:
Although many AVAs in Sonoma County are well-known for one or
two specific varietals, the Sonoma Valley enjoys diverse
terroir, and successfully grows many different grape types. The
Sonoma Valley AVA was established in 1982, and is approximately
160 square miles. About 28,000 acres are planted with vineyards.

History

The history of viticulture in the Sonoma Valley began when a
Franciscan Padre named Jose Altimira established the Sonoma
Mission in 1823. This was the last, and northernmost Spanish
Mission built in California. Altimira established the first of
the Sonoma Valley Wineries, and simple wines were produced for
ecclesiastical purposes.

After Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1835, General
Vallejo was sent by the new government to secularize the Sonoma
Mission and its surrounding properties. The Bear Flag Revolt
occured 11 years later, and authority shifted to the United
States Government shortly thereafter.

Agaston Harazsthy founded the first commercial Sonoma Valley
Winery in 1857. Harazsthy experimented with different vitis
vinifera varietals and greatly increased the perception of the
Sonoma Valley as a quality wine region. Although Harazsthy's
winery ultimately went bankrupt, it laid the foundation for
future wine producers. Because of his contributions to Sonoma
viticulture, Harazsthy is known as the "Father of the California
Wine Industry".

The combined devastation of Phylloxera and Prohibition
eliminated all but the most hearty and innovative Sonoma Valley
Wineries. Sebastiani was able to persevere due to a contract
with the Church to make wine. However, most vineyards were
converted to other crops or used to raise livestock.

Despite the fact that the Sonoma Valley AVA has a long history
of winemaking, it was not until the 1970s that quality wine
production became widespread. The legacy of Phylloxera and
Prohibition caused the region to stagnate for over a generation.
Between the repeal of Prohibition and the renaissance of the
1970s, Sonoma Valley Wineries primarily produced jug wine.

During the 1970s, renowned wineries such as Gundlach-Bundschu,
and Chateau St. Jean experimented successfully with several
different varietals. As a result, one varietal does not dominate
production as Cabernet Sauvignon does in the Rutherford and
Oakville AVAs.

Terroir

The terroir of the Sonoma Valley AVA is dominated by
unpredictable fog patterns. A substantial amount of fog from the
Southern San Pablo Bay regularly covers the region.
Additionally, a lesser amount of fog creeps through a gap in the
mountains near Santa Rosa in the north.

The Southern Sonoma Valley is very cool and includes the eastern
part of the Carneros AVA. Temperature steadily rise as one
travels north. The town of Sonoma is located about one-third of
the way north within the AVA and has a moderate, pleasant
climate. The northern towns of Glen Ellen and Kenwood are
substantially warmer.

Wines, Wineries, and Varietals

As alluded to earlier, unpredictable fog patterns make it
difficult to typecast specific areas in the Sonoma Valley AVA as
being suited to particular varietals. Although exceptions
abound, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay generally thrive in the
southern part of the Appellation. At the same time, there are
areas around Kenwood in the northern part of the AVA that
produce great Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Pinot Noir from Sonoma Valley varies dramatically from the south
to the north. Northern Pinots have almost Rhone-like
characteristics, while southern Pinots are lighter and more
reminiscent of production from the Russian River Valley.

The eastern hills of the valley below Sonoma Mountain are
increasingly best known for Zinfandel. McCrea Vineyards is an
exceptional example of this production. While great Cabernet
Sauvignon can also be found on the Eastern Sonoma Mountain,
Louis M Martini's Monte Rosso in the Western Mayacamas Mountains
has arguably been the most consistently excellent Cab grown by
any Sonoma Valley Winery. Exceptional Gewurztraminers and
Sauvignon Blancs are also produced in the Sonoma Valley AVA.

Professional tips against jet lag

Author: Marcus Hochstadt

Article:
First of all please notice that some explanations in my article
are from a “viewpoint” of European Times. You’ll know what I
mean when you read my article.

AND I am German and have some misspelled words, grammar and
phrases. I’m still developing my skills, but just don’t look at
this, look at the content itself, and you’ll be happy. ;-)

So go ahead now, I just want you to recognize it. ;-)

The biological clock of the body needs a while after a journey
into another time belt, in order to adjust itself to the new
rhythm. Physical and mental symptoms can occur here such as
headache, listlessness or nausea, but none jet lag must be
helplessly delivered.

Daylight helps itself the cells, automatically to program on
"Day". When you fly in direction to the east, for example to
Thailand, it might be harder for you - you lose several hours.
In order to prepare some days in advance for the new sleep
rhythm, you should spend some time in the daylight in the early
evening. During the flight it is advisable to sleep in advance.
Then the adjustment goes faster.

When you travel toward the west, approximately to the USA,
you’ll have it easier. Nevertheless you should try to plan its
arrival around noon time to get the brightest light of the day.
Important appointments or activities at the arrival place you
should plan at the time of day, at which you are most awake:
After a flight in direction to the east in the evening, after a
flight in direction to the west in the morning.

Sleep on board

Many humans have problems to fall asleep on the tiny seat in the
airplane. Therefore in such a way some seizes to sleep pills or
tranquilizers. This unnatural interference into the bio rhythm
of the body affects negatively to your adjustment at recent time
conditions.

It is healthier to create yourself in the airplane as good sleep
conditions as possible: Take yourself an inflatable neck cushion
and an eye mask in the airplane. Some airlines distribute
themselves these implements on board, but you shouldn’t rely on
it however.

Since feet often swell on a flight, it is advisable to take your
shoes off and to carry yourself on a warm cosy pair of socks.
Even if you feel yourself it’s not cold, you should cover
yourselves before falling asleep with a light cover (you’ll get
one by all long distance flights), so that you do not wake up
freezing and protect yourself from a cold! I for myself know
what I’m talking about. I have seen many people who
underestimated this point and had a cold at their additional
days after their flight.

Never drink alcohol as your “falling-asleep-assistance”

Tiny alcohol bottles on board often used as a falling asleep
assistance during the flight. In the airplane these affect
however - exactly the same as tranquilizers - three times as
strongly as down on the earth! If you are suffering from fear of
flight you should avoid alcohol here, since psychological
symptoms can occur such as aggression or depression (however,
this is an extensive subject. I will post an article about this
in the future. For now I focus on “jet lag”).

In addition alcohol supports the drainage of the body, which
particularly begins fast on long distance flights. As
consequence headache and listlessness appear. The air within an
airplane is often drier than in the desert! While the air
humidity of the Sahara amounts to about 20 per cent, it occurs
at long distance flights that it falls below the ten-per cent
border. Therefore you should drink much water during, before and
after the flight.

Professionals take beverages themselves

In many cases the water on board isn’t particularly good-tasting
and is served in containers by the size of an egg cup. You won’t
to constantly trouble a flight attendant with your desires.
Therefore take yourself also a large bottle of your preferential
mineral water on board.

Last but not least: my most important advice

To the complete habituation time of your body the following rule
of thumb applies: One day per hour time lag. With a difference
of six hours that would be six days, until the biological clock
of the body ticks in conformity with the time belt. When you
then precautionary go to bed one our earlier/later per day, your
body get used to the new daytime.

Enjoy your trip to Germany!

Much admiration

Marcus

Airport Parking at LAX just got easier.

Author: Greg Bessoni

Article:
Whether your flying out of LAX for business or leisure, we all
know how parking at Los Angeles International Airport can
frustrate any human being. The lack of space, the price, the
thought of your car being at an unsafe, insecure lot. As a
frequent flyer myself, I understand that the person who only
travelers maybe twice a year or 20 times year, the same holds
true. Airport Parking is the toughest part of the trip. I have
compiled a list of reason why it is extremely advantageous to
“reserve” your airport parking before your trip out of LAX
Airport.

Reason 1: You will save money. The website I use is
www.parkingaccess.com. They negotiate lower rates from the
parking facility and offer them to you. You book online by
making a deposit of the 1st day of parking, plus a small
convenience fee. The 1 day of pakring is then deducted from the
total bill when you exit the facility. Parkingaccess.com
provides you with a total quoate as well. For instance, if
you’re planning a trip for 7 days, parkingaccess.com will quote
you 7 days, but only require the first day to be paid online.
When you leave the facility, you’ll be responsible for only the
remainder, or 6 days of parking.

Reason 2: You will save time. When you reserve airport parking,
you know exactly where you are parking and that you have a
guaranteed space. Unlike on-airport parking, where you drive up
and down the rows looking for a space, the facilities that
parkingaccess.com works with guarantee your space and direct you
to it.

Reason 3: You car is safe and secure. Parkingaccess.com does a
fabulous job making sure the parking facilities they work with;
live up to the highest standards of customer service and
security. Facilities are fenced, lighted, and open 24/7.

Reason 4: Never get lost again. After making your reservation,
parkingaccess.com provides you with a map and directions that
you can easily print out and bring with you on your way to the
airport. We’ve all been there trying to find a facility a friend
or colleague told you about and waste 20-30 minutes searching
for it.

Reason 5: Customer Satisfaction. Unlike on-airport parking,
where you wait and wait for a shuttle bus to come pick you up,
parkingaccess.com parking facilities either valet your car, or
follow you to your car when you enter the lot. The shuttle bus
drivers will even help you with your luggage and drive you
immediately to your terminal, FREE of charge.

If only to look through the site to find information about the
parking options at LAX, I highly suggest you visit the site
before your next trip. parkingaccess.com will also assist you
with any questions by emailing them at care@parkingaccess.com
Your trip starts and ends with parking, why not make it an
experience you will remember, not dread to do again the next
trip you make.

A Taste of Tahoe

Article:
A Taste of Tahoe:

By Ronda Moll

Just as the majesty of the tall pine trees complement the beauty
of the crystalline waters of Lake Tahoe, so does the cuisine of
the many fine restaurants visitors can expect to find from
Stateline to South Shore.

Whether it's grabbing a burger and fries or relishing a savory
bit of filet mignon, the dining options at the lake are
limitless and can accommodate any appetite.

Atmosphere is essential to any successful restaurant and for
such establishments as the Riva Grill, Llewellyn's, and the
Fresh Ketch Restaurant, mesmerizing lakeviews and exceptional
cuisine complement each other like the perfect wine selection at
dinner.

Known for a classic, Tahoe style ambiance, The Riva Grill
located at the Ski Run Marina, has a generous redwood deck that
allows its guests to soak in the smell of the tall pine trees
and of course the hypnotic view. Entrée selections can range
from coconut prawn appetizers and chicken sandwiches for lunch,
to herb crusted halibut or a generous steak for dinner. What
attracts patrons even more is the “Wet Woody” a frozen
concoction of seven different kinds of rum, named after the
classic wooden Chris Craft boats that once dotted the lake's
shore. Sipping on one of these tropical sensations while gazing
out at the snow-capped mountains and pale blue water indeed
provides the perfect backdrop for a relaxing day of leisure.

The paradise feel can be captured once again, in a sleek and
sophisticated bar known as the Coco Havana Club. Located at the
top of Harvey's Resort and Casino Hotel, the Coco Havana Club is
akin to a 1940s nightclub. Situated inside of the resort's
culinary high point, Llewellyn's, this smart bar complements the
innovative continental cuisine patrons have come to expect from
this elegant restaurant. Boasting spectacular views, both the
Coco Havana Club and Llewellyn's provide an intimate and
relaxing ambiance with the idea of luxury in mind.

For a more casual dining experience, the Fresh Ketch Restaurant
at the Tahoe Keys Marina, offers the perfect blend of nautical
décor with sunny decks and succulent seafood. From fish and
chips to fish tacos, the lunch menu is informal. Weather
permitting customers can enjoy a cool glass of iced tea on the
sunny deck, while watching the peaceful lull of sailboats
sitting peacefully in their slips. For that yacht club feel
dinner is hosted in a formal dining area.

With so many restaurants and so little time, it is impossible to
list every establishment that puts the “taste” in Tahoe, but if
sushi is a favorite, then the Naked Fish, is one of the most
popular sushi bars in the area. For those looking for the
perfect ravioli, Passaretti's Italian Restaurant has authentic
dishes and leaves its patrons feeling full and satisfied.

Just as skiing through untracked powder or jet skiing on the
lake are the perfect activities for making a memorable Lake
Tahoe vacation, so does ending the day with a great meal while
watching the sun set on another perfect day at Lake Tahoe. Be

Sharing your Satellite Internet Connection

Author: Larry McLemore

Article:
Sharing your Satellite Internet Connection Do you have
Satellite Internet? If so here is something you might not know.
You can share the Internet with others by becoming a hotspot. A
hotspot is a location where wireless or Wi-Fi Internet is
available. You can send your signal to Rver's that are near,
allowing them to connect to the Internet from your signal. You
might ask why would you want to do that? There are several
reasons, maybe you are traveling with another rver that does not
have Internet capability's. Maybe some of the members of your
club only have slow dialup or you might be in an area where only
Satellite is available. Or maybe you would like to make enough
money to pay for your own service by charging others to use your
signal. In order to do this, you will need a 802.11b or 802.11g
wireless router. Prices are great right now and you can get one
for as little as $30 on up to several hundred. As a rule, the
more you pay for a router, the further you can send your signal.
The router fits inline with your modem and is very easy to
connect up. You will probably have to use the product support
and talk to a tech the first time you configure it, then after
that you should have no problem. The person or persons you are
sending the signal to, will need an adapter, see
www.rvinginfo.com. Once they have the adapter, they will be able
to access other free hotspots as well. Here is a list of
www.wififreespot.com You have to keep in mind that with a
network setup like this, you can share files, such as your
documents, but if you do that, anyone connected to the network
will be able to access the files that you are sharing. So the
best thing to do is not to activate any file sharing, but if you
feel you want to any way, then at least require a password so
only those that you want to can access your files. One other
thing, as more people connect using your signal, the signal
speed will slow, however it will still be much faster than
dialup.

16 Tips For Preventing Passport Problems

Author: William Manor

Article:
Carelessness is the number one reason for a passport
application being rejected or delayed or for a passport being
lost, stolen, or damaged.

What steps are necessary to prevent these things from happening?
How can you take care of your passport? Below are 16 practical
tips you can follow to acquire your passport, keep it in your
possession, and preserve it in good condition.

Before You Leave On Your Trip

1. Check to see if you even need a passport.

Countries can, and often do, change foreign entry requirements.
If you arrive at the airport without the required documents,
you'll be denied boarding privileges. And, of course, this isn't
covered by travel insurance.

Currently, more than 80% of the world's countries require a
valid passport for entrance. It's important to verify the
foreign entry requirements for the country you plan to visit as
early as possible.

2. Apply for your passport early.

You should apply for a new passport at least 90 days before your
departure date. For a renewal, begin the process 8 to 11 months
before your passport expires. Why so early? Many countries
require that your passport have six to eight months of validity
remaining before they will issue a visa.

3. Fill out the correct form correctly.

Each type of passport service has specific criteria that must be
met. Make sure you get the right application form, and then fill
it in carefully. Double-check each entry. Ask a friend or
relative to verify it as well. Errors made on the application
form can lead to delays or, even, rejection of your passport
request.

4. Follow the specifications for the required documents exactly.

When applying for a new passport, the most frequently used
documents are a certified birth certificate for proof of
citizenship along with a valid driver's license for proof of
identity.

Your birth certificate must be a certified copy with a
registrar's raised, embossed, impressed, or multicolored seal,
registrar's signature, and the date the certificate was filed
with the registrar's office, which must be within 1 year of your
birth. No photocopies are accepted. Your driver's license must
be more than six months old.

For a passport renewal, your previous passport serves as both
proof of citizenship and proof of identity. To be valid, it
cannot be mutilated, altered, or damaged in any way.

You must send two identical passport photos taken within the
last 6 months. These passport photos must be 2"x2" with a plain
white or off-white background. They have to be a full-face view
with the head being from 1 to 1 3/8 inches from the chin to the
top of the head. The photos can be either color or black and
white.

5. Sign both the passport application form and your check.

Surprisingly, many people forget to sign either the passport
application form or their check to Passport Services. Once
again, check everything twice, or even three times.

6. Request additional pages.

Are you a frequent flyer? Request a 48-page passport (at no
additional cost). It will allow you to travel more before having
to replace it.

7. Sign your passport and fill out the emergency information.

When your passport arrives, check to see that all the
information contained in it is correct. If it is, sign it and
fill in your current address and the name of a person to contact
in case of emergency. If not, return it to the State Department
for correction.

8. Make two copies of your passport and photos.

Give one copy of your passport to a friend or relative who can
be easily contacted in case of an emergency. Take the other copy
and the extra photos with you on your trip. If you use an online
document storage service, you can scan your passport and upload
a copy. That way, you can access it from almost anywhere in the
world.

While You're Away

9. Always keep your passport in a safe place!

Never leave your passport in your baggage, backpack, purse, car,
hotel room, or anywhere else! When you must carry your passport,
keep it in a money belt or inside coat pocket. Upon arrival at
the hotel, put your passport in the hotel safe.

10. Never lay your passport down anywhere.

Passports placed on a counter, phone booth or table can be
easily forgotten or stolen. Practice the habit of immediately
putting your passport away after using it.

11. If you travel as a family or as part of a group, don't let
one person carry all the passports.

The odds are much greater for one person carrying all the
passports to lose them or have them stolen than for all the
passports to be stolen or lost if each individual owner carries
his or her own.

12. Never let anyone leave your presence with your passport.

When checking in at the airport, passing through customs,
exchanging currency, or doing anything else that requires you to
show your passport, never allow the person examining your
passport to leave your presence. If the person starts to leave,
call their attention and request to accompany them.

Law enforcement records show that U.S. passports are sometimes
used for unlawful entry into the United States or by criminals
abroad seeking to establish another identity. You would be
pretty embarrassed if your name were associated with illegal
activities.

13. Immediately report the loss of your passport.

If you are careful and follow the tips above, you shouldn't have
any problem with the loss of your passport. If it does occur
though, immediately notify the local police and then proceed to
the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Take the copy of your
passport and extra photos with you. You will be issued a
temporary passport that you can replace upon returning to the
United States.

After You Return

14. Schedule your passport renewal.

Check the expiration date and make a reminder to renew your
passport at the proper time. Remember, you should begin the
process 8 to 11 months prior to the expiration date. Put the
reminder somewhere where it won't be forgotten.

15. Check the number of blank pages remaining.

Some countries require a blank page for their visa. If you plan
a future trip on which you will visit various countries, you
might need the same number of pages as countries to be visited.

If you do not have an adequate number of pages but your passport
is not due for renewal, you can request additional pages.

16. Store your passport in a safe place.

If you have a safe in your home, keep your passport there. If
not, consider a safety deposit box at your local bank.

Follow the practical tips above and you can easily avoid
passport problems and more fully enjoy your international
travels.
